Our Story

Founded in Boston in 2024, the Young Professional Musicians Collective Society was created by Liz Zabala after she graduated from Berklee College of Music, when she saw a need for performance opportunities and career development for recent music degree graduates. With many musicians reaching out to participate, rehearsals quickly began and they had a successful debut concert in April of 2025 in partnership with the Public Library of Brookline, featuring the world premiere of “Dancing Lightscapes”, a new composition by young musician Malachi Del Rosario.

In June, 2025, the YPMC opened participation applications to musicians in Zabala’s home town of Calgary where they have been operating ever since. YPMC’s Boston branch hosted their second concert in November 2025, again in partnership with the Public Library of Brookline, this time featuring opera singers from the Boston Summer Opera alongside their own instrumentalists.

As of February of 2026, the YPMC has officially split into two separate organizations which are independent of each other: the Young Professional Musicians Collective Society (based in Calgary) and the Young Professional Musicians Collective Boston. The YPMC is now preparing for their debut concert in Calgary in March 2026, featuring many local student musicians as well as professional musicians who have recently moved to the area. They will be presenting a dynamic program of music featuring less heard instrumentations from a wide range of musical time periods, including arrangements from well known composers such as Mozart and Stravinsky, as well as the world premiere of a brand new composition, “After Midnight”, by young musicians Xavier Cintron and Louis D. Rivera Gotay. The YPMC looks forward to continuing to foster growth and educate young musicians in Calgary while sharing music with the community.
