YPMC Musicians Gain Access to the Following:
A network of local musicians
Workshops & masterclasses on all aspects of being a musician, especially those overlooked in many music educational institutions such as business practices and marketing
Rehearsing and performing experience
The chance to play new music and experience working directly with professional composers
For members interested in composition, the chance to have their own compositions played
Experience playing in a variety of instrumental groups of different instrumentations
Opportunities for paid gigs with YPMC partners, leading into a career as a professional performer
Exposure to the community through performances
Mentorship from more experienced artists of different backgrounds
Artist development education outside of their instrumental abilities, such as public speaking, stage presence, business set up etc.
Chances to learn about and explore other paths within music outside of teaching and performance
Our Commitment to Accessibility
Unlike other artist development programs in Calgary, entry into YPMC is merit based, as we believe that financial restrictions should not impact access to educational resources. For this reason, there are no application or participation fees to be a member of YPMC. Instead, YPMC members are expected to contribute to the YPMC community by participating in at least 1 performance per year, and be reliable members of the ensemble by coming on-time and prepared to all rehearsals and performances with a positive attitude.
